The Dyson Airwrap is the hottest new hair tool on the market, and for good reason. It gives you a salon-quality blow out with out damaging your hair. But the price tag is steep. If you’ve been following along, you know that I’ve been on a mission to getting the best deal on a Dyson Airwrap at Ulta by getting it for FREE, and I just did!
My Free Dyson Airwrap was delivered to my doorstep earlier this month and I love it! Today, I’m going to show you exactly how I got this $600 hair tool for $0. Let’s get into it!
Free Dyson Airwrap Strategy
If you read the first post about this topic, you’ll know that I decided to buy my Dyson Airwrap from Ulta. Picking the retailer first allowed me to hone in on the strategy to rack up Rewards and Free Gift Cards quickly. I then used all of my cash back apps to get free Ulta Gift Cards.
If you missed the post on the strategy, take a few minutes to go and read it. It’s important to figure out the strategy you want to use up front in order to get your Free Airwrap – or whatever item you’re wanting to get – as quickly as you can.
This strategy took me about 9 months to complete, and that included some major life events that completely disrupted my journey. It could take you more or less time depending on your use of the cash back apps.
Ulta Strategy Addition
There is one little thing that I did differently than I said I would in my previous post. This addition isn’t for everyone and is slightly controversial. I I opened an Ulta MasterCard.
I’m not suggesting you open a credit card, but for my situation, it was the right thing to do.
When you open an Ulta Credit Card, you get a 20% off coupon. This is a very rare coupon because there are no exclusions or restrictions. You can literally use it on anything in the store, including the Dyson Airwrap, which is usually excluded from any coupons. You also get 2x the reward points on any Ulta purchases and 500 bonus points when you spend $500 outside of Ulta in the first 90 days.
I’m no stranger to Credit Card Hacking. We strategically open credit cards to get bonuses so that we can fly for free. I haven’t paid real money for a flight in years. Because we use YNAB to budget our money, we use credit cards like cash. We always pay them off completely twice a month (the day before payday). We never incur debt, and our credit scores are both above 800. My credit score actually went up a point in the weeks after opening this card.
I hadn’t opened a credit card in a while, so I took the opportunity to get the 20% off coupon. Again, this may not be the best strategy for you, but for my situation there was no downside.
Final Results
Here’s the breakdown of how I got the best deal on a Dyson Airwrap, which for me was free.
Dyson Airwrap $599.99
-20% off coupon from Credit Card open ($120)
$479.99
-$250 Ulta Rewards
-$230 Ulta Gift Cards
=FREE Dyson Airwrap!!!
Free Ulta Gift Cards
The Ulta Gift Cards that I earned from Cash Back & Rebate apps are as follows:
Drop – $200 in Free Ulta Gift Cards
Fetch – $25 in Free Ulta Gift Cards
Ibotta – $20 in Free Ulta Gift Cards
I still have a bunch of points towards a cash out on Receipt Hog & Shopkick, but I’m going to use those for something else. Maybe the dining room table I’ve always wanted?
Drop is by far the easiest way to earn free gift cards quickly. You become a premium member by linking your credit cards, and then it can give you points for shopping at certain stores.
Every Wednesday morning, you can activate the Premium Offers to earn cash back. Some of those premium offers work in store as well as online. My Drop points mostly come from Kroger (in store), Sam’s Club (in store), Amazon, Ulta & Sephora (all online only). I also play the basketball game twice a day, play Drop Spin on Tuesdays for a bonus, and do the occasional survey when there is an incentive.
I was earning a $50 Ulta card just about every month on Drop.
One Tiny Complication
If you’re thinking about embarking on this strategy to earn points to get a Free Dyson Airwrap, there is one tiny complication. The Ulta website only allows you to use one gift card code per transaction.
Since the gift card apps only give $25-50 gift cards, you have to combine your codes into one gift card code. Ulta will allow you to do that online if you purchased your gift cards directly from Ulta. However, the gift cards that you earn from these apps are considered to be purchased from third parties, not directly from Ulta. You’ll have to call the Customer Service number to have the gift cards combined. This may take a few business days to complete.
Is the Dyson Airwrap Worth It?
The Dyson Airwrap is expensive. $600 for a hair tool is a lot. However, it’s $600 for 6 different hair tools, all built into one AND it comes with its own organizer. I’ve owned the same professional hair dryer & flat iron for over 15 years. I’ve been on a mission to make my hair healthier lately, and I can’t bring myself to put my dry ends it on a hot piece of metal anymore. So to me, the Dyson Airwap is worth it. I get the look I want without the damage. If I take care of it, it should last me a very long time.
My Results
I’m loving the smooth, volumizing styles that I’m able to achieve with the Dyson Airwrap. However, I don’t think that the curls last as long as the ones made from a regular curling iron. My hair could have something to do with that, as it is very difficult for my hair to hold a curl. It may be the products that I’m using, but the bouncy curls that I get fresh from using the AirWrap fall out pretty quickly. In about an hour, it’s just a nice soft blowout – which is still better than my normal air dried look.
The best part – it only takes me about 8 minutes to fully curly my hair, and that’s with doing small sections! It’s life-changing! And touch up is a breeze!
In the end, the better overall health of my hair is more important to me than the hold of the curls. I can always add more products to help hold the curl longer. Let me know if you have any good product suggestions!
Final Thoughts
So have I convinced you to try my strategy for a Free Dyson Airwrap? I mean, I could have just tried to get it for less, but what’s the fun in that? I loved the challenge of getting it for free. Using these rewards programs and apps allows me to get things I really want and not use the family budget. Its a win win. And this works for all kinds of things you might want, I just wanted an Airwrap at the time.
